Who We Are

Operation Spread the Joy is a volunteer-led nonprofit founded in October 2024 with a mission to support children, families, and individuals in our community through kindness, compassion, and practical assistance. We serve those facing financial hardship, emotional distress, or unexpected crisis, especially during the holiday season.

Executive Director – Amy Wood

Amy has lived and worked in Powell County for 30+ years. During her time working in several rural schools she discovered a passion for elementary education and helping children and families navigate the difficulties of life. She also gained perspective on poverty in Powell County and believes that we can do more to help our neighbors during times of need.

Fundraising and Marketing Director – Alexa Wood

As a native Montanan, born and raised in Powell County, Alexa has a deep love for the communities that OSJ serves. A recent graduate of the Culinary Institute of Montana, her passion is in ensuring that every family is able to experience the joy of the holiday and has what they need to enjoy a beautiful meal together.

President of the Board of Directors – Carrie Kouba

As a former school principal and now working as the Director of School Improvement for the public instruction office for the State of Montana, Carrie brings with her a wealth of knowledge to help Operation Spread The Joy bring our services to the children and families of Powell County.

Vice President of the Board of Directors – Gwen Purcell

As a certified Pharmacy Technician and independent Medical Insurance agent Gwen brings with her a passion for helping families live their best and healthiest lives. As a resident of Idaho she loves spending time in the outdoors with her husband and wild, adventurous son… aka. Santa’s Helper – who you will see in many pictures! .

Board Member – Amy Kroon

As the former Director of Development for a major non-profit in Butte, Amy has spent a significant amount of time learning about the economic challenges of families in the State of Montana. She brings with her knowledge of grant writing, marketing and advertising and is excited to give back to the community that helped raise her children.

Christmas Angel Tree

Matching generous donors with local children to ensure every child experiences the joy of receiving a meaningful holiday gift.

Stockings for Students

Delivering over 700 festive stockings filled with snacks, school supplies, hygiene items, and small gifts to students in need.

Free Holiday Community Dinners

Hosting inclusive community dinners to offer a warm meal and meaningful connection during the holidays.

Emergency Family Assistance

Providing rapid-response support such as grocery and essential items to families facing sudden crises.

Future Scholarship Program

Working toward launching scholarships to help students in need pursue their  educational goals.
